- becomes cornea in front of pupil and iris

- choroid: layer below it
Scleritis

- painful with eye movement because extraocular muscles insert here
- aka red eye

Episcleritis

Keratitis

- sclera separated from environment by conjunctiva (transparent)
- cornea has no conjunctiva covering, easy to be inflamed (keratitis)
- foreign body sensation in eye


Conjunctiva

- transparent layer sits on top of sclera
- also goes around eye and covers underside of eyelid

- injection: blood vessels in eye
