Ulcerative Colitis

• ulcers in colons
• not full thickness

• always rectal: LUQ pain

• an ulcer healing, scar tissue raised up and looks like polyps

• neutrophils everywhere

Extra-intestinal

• ulcers in skin
• number of autoimmune diseases cause uveitis (RA e.g.)
• lower back pain and joint stiffness, at night

• colon stops contraction

• toxic: fever and shock

Crohn's

• terminal ileum
• B12, bile salts absorbed in ileum
• increased risk of gallstones, also secretory diarrhea (draw fluid), and steatorea from fat
• terminal ileum: RLQ pain

• stones: normal mucosa
• fissures: transmural inflammation

• transmural inflammation spread outside the wall and to other places (bladder, skin)

• fat wrapped around bowel

ExtraIntestinal

• lower back pain and joint stiffness at night
